Great Weekend

August 5, 2009

Congratulations to the organisers of the 2009 Gove Peninsular Festival. It was a great day down at Hindle Oval last weekend and many clubs along with the Nhulunbuy Regional Sports Fishing Club enjoyed the day show casing their organisation and activities at the numerous stalls and displays put together by the local clubs. Such events would not be possible without the fantastic support of club members, and the NRSFC is most grateful for the many members who entered the float parade and stayed the day at the static display chatting with potential, new and renewing members of the club. Thanks also to the members who took the time and effort to put their boats on display and answer the many questions from festival public all day long. I’m sure Jason sold Derek’s boat several times over at a bargain basement price !!!!

The club ran a couple of free competitions on the day. Guessing the number and correct weight of the jar of sinkers always provides a challenge and the results (guesses) are always interesting to say the least. Estimated weights ranged from a few kilos below the actual weight and many times over. No wounder fish size estimates always add to good fishy stories !!!! Anyway, the weight of the jar of sinkers was 5.59 kg and Peter Davis was nearest with 5.8 kg registered on the day. The total number of sinkers was 99, and David Seibold guessed the exact number, well done Peter and David. They each win their choice of a tackle box or game rod.

The 2009 – 2010 Members Lucky Draw was also held at the Festival last weekend. All new members were entered in a barrel and drawn last night at the monthly general meeting at the Walkabout Lodge. First prize of a XXXX Gold Esky was Dave Dunn, second, a Shimano game reel was Paul Even and third for a game fishing rod was Michael Higgins, congratulations to all our winners.

The next important event in the club calendar is the Annual General Meeting. It can not be stressed enough how important for all members to attend the AGM. This years meeting will be held from 6pm at the Surf Club kicking off with a free BBQ for all members and the AGM will start at 7:30pm. Some positions are still vacant on the committee, and reports will be available prior to the AGM for members. Please make the effort to drop down with the family to the Surf Club on Thursday evening the 27th of August from 6pm and hear how the club has performed for the last 12 months and what plans are being proposed for 2010 and beyond.

The Nhulunbuy Regional Sports Fishing Club launched it’s new NRSFC Club fishing and polo shirts at the Festival last weekend. These great shirts will be available for sale from Gove Tackle and Outdoor from Monday the 10th of August. Both style of shirts carry the Club, Northern Territory, Australian and International Association Logos and would make great gifts or practical apparel for any keen fisho. The current membership discount offer for the International Game Fishing Association is great value and would be a great Fathers Day gift for the angler who is hard to shop for and has a tackle box overflowing at home or in the boat!

See you at the AGM on the 27th of August at the Surf Club.

Until next week, tight lines

Regards,

Peter Cox
