Festival Fun & Fishing

August 3, 2009

Camping was my own option last week with the 25 to 30 knots blowing all weekend. These south easterly winds are always about at this time of year, but are always cursed when some good tides come along and fishermen are left by the shore due to rough conditions out wide. Once again some club members headed for the creeks with mixed results. However one long serving member having read the last few reports of the buckets of bait fish hanging around the back of Melville Bay decided to put this scribe to the test. A couple of sailfish later, and Mo was more than happy with the results. I believe these were the first bill fish tagged for the new season. Well done. Still heaps of bait fish in the Bay area so as Mo proved, pop out and drag a bait. You may well be surprised what turns up to have a go at your rig !

The NRSFC is still looking for members and interested anglers to run an information stall at this years Gove Peninsular Festival on the 1st of August. Derek Endersby is coordinating the club’s activities on the day, so give him a call on 0438 309 054 or call into Gove tackle and Outdoors.

For those with a sporting sense of humour, the club is on the look out for 6 members to enter the Gove Olympics fun sports competition at this weekends Gove Peninsular Festival. Remember, the club will pay your team entry for the Gove Olympics and you and your team mates could win some great prizes. The parade is shaping up to be bigger than ever before so anyone wanting to enter their rig (trailer boat) should also give Derek a call. Kids, don’t forget to decorate your bike and jump in as well. Heaps of great prizes as well. Many just for juniors.

The Nhulunbuy Regional Sports Fishing Club is pleased to have received just in time for the Festival, the new NRSFC Club fishing and polo shirts. These will go on sale for the very first time at the NRSFC stall at the Festival. Both shirts carry the Club, Northern Territory, Australian and International Association Logos and would make great gifts for any keen fisho. While at the fishing club stall check out one of the free entry competitions to be held on the day. This will be the 2009 – 2010 Members Lucky Draw. If you have already renewed your membership, or do so on the day at the Festival, call in at the stall and you can fill out an entry form for our “Membership Rewards Lucky Draw”. First prize is a XXXX Gold esky followed by several runner up prizes of fishing reels, rods and tackle. So call on down to Hindle oval and visit the NRSFC site and join in all the fun and activities.

Also, check out the membership discounts and pick up an IGFA application. The current membership discount offer for the International Game Fishing Association is great value and would be a great Fathers Day gift for the angler who is hard to shop for and has a tackle box overflowing. For your convenience, the club will be having credit card facilities at the stand for all memberships and merchandise sales.

See you at the Gove Peninsular Festival this Saturday.

Until next week, tight lines.

Regards

Peter Cox
