Countdown to the Festival

July 24, 2009

Well you can set your weekend watch on the south easterly winds at present. Saturday and Sunday saw the strongest winds for the week with white caps a plenty out wide. Several anglers fished the bay and rock wall with mixed results. A few undersized Barra and Queenfish with the odd small Mackerel thrown in for good measure. Other club members headed for the creeks and scored some Barra and mud crabs. Stacy Cox landed her first barra last weekend and has vowed to return for the elusive 1 mtr specimen – watch out David, are the future boys fishing trips threatened ? Well done Stacy. It’s good to see some of our lady members getting amongst it.

Still heaps of bait fish frequenting the Melville Bay area. As we mentioned last week, these bait schools are worth a trawl with small deep divers and metal slices. Let us know if you spot any more Billfish in the Bay. Wallaby beach and West Woody are still working well, along with the eastern rocks of town beach.

The NRSFC is looking for members and interested anglers to run an information stall at this years Gove Peninsular Festival on the 1st of August. For those with a sense of humour, how about entering the Gove Olympics fun sports competition ? The club will pay your team entry for the Gove Olympics and the chance to win some great prizes. We also invite those with trailer boats interested in joining in the fun of the Festival Parade to drop the club a line. Derek Endersby is coordinating the club’s activities on the day, so give him a call on 0438 309 054 or call into Gove tackle and Outdoors.

Don’t forget the kids bike section of the parade for our junior members. Any contribution or help out at the stall for an hour or two at the festival will be greatly appreciated. Once again call Derek for more information. The Club (as usual) will be looking after hungry and thirsty members throughout the day.

Several free entry competitions will be held on the day. One such competition will be rewarding new 2009 – 2010 members. If you are already renewed your membership, or do so at the Festival, you can fill out an entry form for our membership rewards draw. First prize is a XXXX Gold esky followed by several runner up prizes of fishing reels, rods and tackle. So call on down to Hindle oval and visit the NRSFC site and join in all the fun and activities.

Until next week, tight lines.

Regards,

Peter Cox
