“Playing with Plastics”
April 29, 2009The next monthly general meeting of the Nhulunbuy regional Sports Fishing Club (NRSFC) will be held upstairs at the Walkabout Lodge Conference Room at 8pm next Tuesday the 5th of May. This month’s topic is “Fishing with Soft Plastics”. As always, the NRSFC monthly general meetings held the first Tuesday of the month, are open to the public and you do not have to be a member to attend. Soft plastic lures have become incredibly popular in recent years, and those attending next week will first view an informative DVD on these popular lures and then review a wide range of lures provided by local business Gove Tackle and Outdoors. The session will be punctuated with the necessary drinks breaks and finish with some handy tackle tips and braid knots to provide the full picture on how to select, swim and fish with these great lures. Sponsor XXXX Gold has some lures to give away and the tackle representative from Gove tackle and Outdoors will show anglers the best outfits to fish with. So don’t forget to attend next Tuesday the 5th of May 8pm at the Walkabout Lodge for this informative session.
Last week we announced the next open (public) fishing competitions being the C & S Refrigeration Family Fishing Competition on Sunday the 10th of May. A Mothers Day event for the whole family with all proceeds of the Competition being donated to the Rogers Family Appeal. It’s great to see so many other events being coordinated in our Community for this very worthy cause, so check out the Arafura Times and NRSFC road side signs for the Surf Club music and family fun session and other activities raising funds for this local family. Many entry forms have already been submitted at Gove Tackle and Outdoors for the C & S Refrigeration Family Fishing Competition, so call in and register your crew for a great day on the water and a chance to win some fantastic prizes and raise some funds for a local family.
Speaking of raising funds, thanks once again to all the girls who entered the 2009 Airnorth ladies Fishing Tournament last month. Check out the story in this weeks Arafura Times about the donation to the McGrath Foundation. We hope it can help out with the great work this organisation does for remote locations and the many sufferers of breast cancer.
On the fishing front, the south easters are back and steady 15 knot winds blew most of last weekend. Once again only a few anglers headed out for a day on the water. Hope our local representative isn’t too lonely at the boat ramps looking for someone to fill out a survey. With the dry season conditions kicking in, not too many people will be venturing outside the bay, or out past the mouths of local rivers. The only reports this week was from a lone fisherman who persisted at rainbow cliffs for a couple of Trevally that were successfully released after a pic or two. Have a go on the Perkins ramp sea wall and if you have a tinny, try the back of the bay. The barra are still around and the low tide on the weekend should be OK to fish.
Please consider your participation in the Family Competition next month for a very worthy cause. Until next week, tight lines.
Regards,
Peter Cox
