Family Fishing Event to Benefit Local Family.

April 21, 2009

The Nhulunbuy Regional Sports Fishing Club (NRSFC) has announced the next in this year’s series of open (public) fishing competitions. The NRSFC and local company C & S Refrigeration are proudly hosting a Family Fishing Competition on Sunday the 10th of May. As the event is being held on Mothers Day and the club has recognised a worthy cause here within our own community, all proceeds of the C & S Refrigeration Family Fishing Competition are being donated to the Rogers Family Appeal currently underway. Here is a chance for everyone to take mum out for a great day on the water, hopefully catch a fish or two for dinner, win some great prizes and raise some funds for a local family recovering from their recent tragedy.

Teams consisting of 2, 3 or 4 anglers can enter. A discount is available for families when 2 adults enter or attend the Competition & Presentation. As always, it is important that one member of the team attend the competition briefing night on Thursday the 7th of May at the Walkabout Lodge. Teams will receive their copy of the rules and event details at the briefing. Entry is open to all residents of Gove and being an open event, entrants don’t have to be a fishing club member to participant. All entrants will receive entry in the lucky prizes draw and there are some great prizes up for grabs in all sections including game, reef, estuary and land based sections. The competition will begin from 6am Sunday the 10th of May through to 3pm in the afternoon. Participants will need to present their captures and tag cards to the weigh master at the club scales near the boat ramp at the Yacht Club between 3pm and 4pm. A BBQ will commence at 5pm with the presentation of prizes and drawing of the lucky tickets shortly after. Entry forms are available from the team at Gove Tackle and Outdoors, along with this year’s event calendar and 2009 – 2010 membership forms. See today’s advertisement in the Arafura Times.

Storms swept across the peninsular last weekend and only a few anglers headed out for a day on the water. No reports this week, but keep an eye out for our local representative conducting the fishing survey on behalf of NT Fisheries. Data collected is vital for resource databases that will be utilised to assist future decisions and resource management. Keep a close eye out for the couple of storms still expected to hang around until the end of April and remember to take home only what you need when fishing. Please consider your participation in the Family Competition next month for a very worthy cause.
Until next week, tight lines.
