With last weeks great news of the grants from Rotary Gocroc‘s to the Nhulunbuy Regional Sports Fishing Club, together with St John Ambulance and Airmed Services, reinforces the clubs commitment to the community and our ongoing benefits to the community. Fishing news

After the success of the recent Arnhem Club Challenge it was time for club members to relax and unwind, and what better way to relax than to go “Fishing” again. With the current weather conditions its hard not to. Judging from the boat trailers parked at the ramps over the weekend, it reinforced the message that all the hard work from the Nhulunbuy Regional Sports Fishing Club was worth the efforts of upgrading the existing ramps and the construction of the new one with all ramps full.

With good run in the tides bringing plenty of blue water, many anglers were rewarded with good catches. Species targeted were mainly Red Emperor, Goldie’s, Jew Fish and Trout. A couple of anglers reported Reds up to 5kg out at Higginson reef’s and Cape Arnhem produced some nice Jew Fish up to 12kg and Goldie’s averaging 3kg. Read the rest of this entry ?

Peter Cox – Citizen of the Year

Nhulunbuy had its fair share of celebrating Australia Day with different sports and social activities, highlighted by the annual awarding ceremony held at the Town Hall organised by the Nhulunbuy Corporation.
This year’s awardees were Peter John Cox, Citizen of the Year, Scott Whelan and Mitchell Putland, Young Citizen Award, Garma Festival, Community Event of the Year, and Daniel Colaway received his Australian Citizenship.
Citizen of the Year Peter John Cox was hailed for his continuous selfless contributions to the community.
“I was pleasantly surprised last week when told that I had been awarded the Nhulunbuy Citizen of the Year Australia Day Award for 2007,” Peter said.
Peter is the incumbent president of Nhulunbuy Regional Sports Fishing Club Inc (NRSFC) since 2003, and instrumental in many projects which benefit the community and other organisations. Read the rest of this entry ?
